A Brighton hardware store that closed its doors last September has reopened as an art gallery following renovation.
Kellie Miller Arts Gallery opened to the public at its new premises in the former Dockerills retail space, which has been operating in Brighton since 1915, after being selected by the family that owns the business.
The gallery, which represents or works with over 100 artists, said the new location would allow them to provide event and collaboration opportunities in the local community.
Ryan Gayler from Dockerills said: “We felt it was important to Church Street and the North Laine community that we considered independent businesses to grace our previous shop dwelling.
“Kellie fits those criteria perfectly, recognised as an outstanding independent business with awards and accolades. We are looking forward to working alongside an international artist and watching the gallery establish itself in the North Laine, Brighton.”
A gallery spokesperson added: “Representing a new chapter for the gallery and the art community of Sussex and beyond, the space aims to be a beacon for the celebration of original art.”
