A NEW exhibition is bringing street art to the galleries of Jersey Museum.

Located at the Link Gallery on the museum’s ground floor, Vince Talcone’s “Loin des yeux, près du coeur”, or “out of sight, close to the heart”, incorporates both traditional graffiti art and sculpture, with some items on display coming from the artist’s travels, as far away as India.

The street artist cited growing up in the 1990s, surrounded by “a big culture” of graffiti in his hometown of Brest, France, as his earliest inspiration. He also stressed the importance of “opening yourself to other art forms” and expressed an interest in continuing to work with galleries and exhibitions.

He said that graffiti and street art had become “a lot more understood now” since he came to the Island in 2002, but that he hoped Jersey would have “more walls where we can paint legally” in the future.

He described getting to where he is now as having taken “a lot of practice”, both in regard to the artwork itself and in having the confidence to collaborate with galleries.
