The Artisan Art Gallery opened its doors on February 1 to provide reasonably priced artwork to the town and its neighbouring communities.

Gallery owner Jonathan Ripley said: “We have a wealth of local talented artists who are under-represented in this area, it’s my ambition to offer these artists an affordable outlet within Exmouth.”

The gallery welcomes submissions from artists in Devon for constructive appraisal.

It plans to host regularly changing exhibitions throughout the year, showcasing a wide variety of artwork.

Jonathan said: “I was dismayed to hear from several award-winning Devon-based artists that they have to travel countrywide to find galleries who will take their work.

“My long-term goal is to champion Devon artists and the amazing diversity of work coming from our beautiful area to a much wider audience.”

The gallery’s first curated exhibition started on Saturday, March 29 and will run throughout April.

It is based on the themes of Water and Art Deco, featuring award-winning Devon artist Sarah Jackson and her collages, as well as other Exmouth artists.

“As always, my late uncle, Tom Hawkes, and a selection of his work will be available.”, Jonathan added.

“In order to introduce those who thought art unaffordable I will be offering a completely free work of his art each week to one person who visits the gallery through April.”

The Artisan Art Gallery is open from Tuesday to Saturday, from 10am until 4.30pm.

All artwork is also available to view on their website.
