Three-day exhibition on Warli art begins

Surat: Artist and sculptor Binaa Patel‘s exhibition on paintings and sculptures of Warli art was inaugurated at Vanita Art Gallery in Surat on Friday.
The exhibition, named ‘Binaa’s Soul’, features 69 paintings and sculptures made by Patel, an alumnus of MS University‘s Faculty of Fine Arts. She has been striving for the conservation and revival of Warli arts for 27 years.
Talking to TOI, Patel said: “I made the paintings on canvas, handmade paper, mud-mirror, soil with cow dung, and pure silk, among others.Warli is our natural art, and I am making all efforts to revive this.”
Patel, born in Killa Pardi of Valsad, was deeply inspired by Padma Shri Late Jivya Soma Mashe, who relentlessly strived to save this 1,200-year-old tribal art from extinction. Patel’s private collections are spread not only in India but also in countries like the US, Canada, Mexico, the UK, Australia, and other European countries.
Her exhibition was inaugurated by Rajya Sabha MP Govind Dholakiya and his wife Champa. The exhibition will continue at the gallery from 11am to 9pm until Sunday.
