EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — The El Paso Museum of Art will close for months as it upgrades its climate control system.
According to the City of El Paso, the museum will close from October 1 to February 2026 so the 30-year-old climate system could be replaced as part of a $3.5 capital improvement project.
“A fully functioning HVAC system is essential to maintaining the precise microclimate required for the preservation of more than 7,000 works of art in our care, some which date to the year 1200 AD,” said Quality of Life Managing Director Ben Fyffe. “By investing now in this overhaul of the Museum’s infrastructure, we can continue to ensure these priceless artworks are available for generations to come.”

The City said the closure is needed as the replacement of air handler on the roof and in the basement will require some demolition.
Worried about the museum’s artworks? The City said they will be safe in a climate-controlled storage.
“We know that our engagement with our community is important and will not stop,” Fyffe added. “Although the building will be closed, EPMA will continue delivering its mission through programming in collaboration with other Museums and Cultural Affairs sites, the Public Library, Parks and Recreation facilities, Sun Metro and other community partners.”
