North Queensland artists Marion Gaemers and Lynnette Griffiths have won Ephemera’s $10,000 Artistic Excellence award for their artwork Killers.
The artwork is exhibited along The Strand as part of the 13th iteration of Ephemera, a two-week public art festival featuring local, national and international artworks.
Long-time collaborators Marion and Lynnette are based in Townsville and Cairns respectively and previously won the wilson/ryan/grose People’s Choice Award at Ephemera in 2017.
Killers was selected by a judging panel consisting of artists Cameron Robbins and Sharon Redmond and curator Trish Barnard.
The $1000 Environmental Advocate Award has been awarded to Anthony Sawrey for The Stain, while the $1000 Young Artistic Excellence Award has been won by Ryan Catholic College for their work Debris Couture.
Acting Mayor Ann-Maree Greaney extended her congratulations to the winning artists.
“Time and time again I am left so impressed by the creativity of artists involved in this festival. All 29 artworks along The Strand reflect the exceptionally high calibre that festival visitors had come to expect from Ephemera,” Cr Greaney said.
“Well done to Marion, Lynnette, Anthony and the students at Ryan Catholic College. Each of your artworks have captured the ‘trace-less’ theme exceptionally well and I have no doubt visitors to The Strand are loving your creativity and talent.”
Visitors can vote for the wilson/ryan/grose Lawyers People’s Choice Award by visiting the Ephemera website or by heading to the Ephemera information booth. Voting closes at 11:59pm on Friday 1 August 2025.
