Ranking among some of the best artists of all time, David Bowie not only embraced glam rock but helped propel it into the spotlight. Throughout his career, the icon released 26 studio albums before he passed away in January 2016. Selling over 100 million albums, the music industry showered the singer with accolades that included Grammy Awards and a spot in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Giving a glimpse into the world of Bowie, musician Glen Matlock revealed the strange place where he found artwork from Picasso and Matisse.

Appearing on Never Mind The Buzzcocks, Matlock, known for his time with the Sex Pistols, discussed sharing time with Bowie. Sitting beside stars like Courtney Love, the musician recalled riding with Bowie after a performance in New York City. “With Iggy Pop, we played an extra club gig in New York and David Bowie came.  He’s got the same car as in [1976 film] The Man Who Fell To Earth, right. We all bundled in that, going down Madison Avenue, and I’m sitting on David Bowie’s knee because there’s nowhere to sit.”

While sitting on Bowie’s lap is already a story, Matlock was shocked by what he discovered in the car with them. “There’s supposed to be two vanity mirrors, and he hasn’t got a vanity mirror – he’s got a little painting. So I went, ‘Hang on a second, that’s a Picasso isn’t it?’ And he went ‘Yeah, it is’.”

That was just the start of Matlock’s discovery on the legendary car ride as he found another priceless item. “Then I looked [to the other side] and went, ‘Hang on, that’s a Matisse!’ In his car… and he said, ‘Yeah’. I said, ‘Well you’re a flash ******’  and he went, ‘Yeah, I guess I am’.”

David Bowie Returning To The Stage?

Although passing away from cancer in 2016, The Sun reported that Bowie could return to the stage in the near future thanks to the rise of technology. With bands like ABBA and KISS taking advantage of the advances in holograms, a source told the publication, “’Avatar shows are big business and ABBA’s groundbreaking show has proved there is a huge demand. Getting David on stage again in the form of a hologram would be huge.”

While an intriguing idea, no announcement has been made surrounding Bowie taking the stage as a hologram.
