SIOUX CITY (KTIV) – For over 30 years, the Sioux City School District has held its annual ‘Artworks’ district art show to help students display their hard work throughout the year.
On Friday, over 1,000 art pieces were officially put on display at the Southern Hills Mall.
From paintings and drawings to sculptures and even puppets, there is a wide variety of artwork. All the art was created by Sioux City students, kindergarten through 12th grade.
Art teachers in the district share that holding this art show allows students to show off all their hard work to the community.
“I’ve talked to several people who were just at the mall doing shopping, and they get to see what some of the students in our district are capable of, and they’re like, ‘wow, this is just amazing’. Some of these kids have so much skill. So getting people who don’t have kids in the school district, or even people who maybe aren’t involved in the art community, to see what we’re capable of is really rewarding,” said Matthew O’Kane, Secondary Art Teacher at West High School.
The artworks will stay on display throughout the weekend.
They can be seen Saturday, May 3, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday, May 4, from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.
