The Shahpura branch of the State Bank of India (SBI) marked the bank’s 70th Foundation Day with an inspiring environmental protection initiative: a sapling plantation program at Akriti Retreat Colony.
During the event, over 50 fruit-bearing and shade-giving saplings were planted within the colony premises. Additionally, attendees and colony residents received 70 holy basil (Tulsi) plants as gifts, symbolizing health and purity in Indian tradition.
Further demonstrating its commitment to community welfare, the bank also donated wet and dry waste dustbins to the colony’s parks as part of its “Swachhta Abhiyan” (Cleanliness Campaign).
The event fostered significant community engagement, with approximately 40 children actively participating in a painting competition. Their artworks vividly depicted “The Significant Role of Trees in Life,” showcasing their creativity and understanding of the theme. Colony residents also enthusiastically joined a quiz focused on banking and cybersecurity.
A unique highlight of the program was an exhibition of artworks crafted from waste materials by colony resident and Vice President, Devendra Prakash Tiwari. These creations served as a powerful message to society that waste is not merely refuse, but can be transformed into art through a creative approach.
The program saw active participation from local citizens alongside distinguished guests. Notably, Ward No. 52 Corporator, Sheela Rambabu Patidar, graced the occasion and personally participated in the sapling plantation, underscoring her commitment to environmental conservation.
Key dignitaries present included Colony President Mahesh Sharma, Vice Presidents Sarvesh Sachan and Devendra Prakash Tiwari. From the State Bank of India, Regional Manager (Region-1 Bhopal) Shrestha Mishra, Sandeep Chandak, Rajesh Gupta, and Shahpura Branch Chief Manager Ramgopal Dhakad, along with his entire branch team, were present and actively participated in the plantation drive.
On this significant occasion, Regional Manager Shrestha Mishra highlighted SBI’s 70-year journey of service, reaffirming the bank’s continued priority for social and green initiatives in the future.
Chief Manager Ramgopal Dhakad of SBI Shahpura Branch also stated, “Foundation Day is not just a celebration, but an opportunity to reiterate our core values — service, trust, and responsibility towards society. This tree plantation program is a symbol of our gratitude towards nature”.
