Public can buy works of artists from M’sia, S’pore and Indonesia
VENDING machines offer people convenient access to various products in public areas, for a fee.
A unique vending machine at Art+ Contemporary Gallery in Bangsar Village 2, Kuala Lumpur, dispenses original artworks.
The gallery’s curator June Cheong said that selling original art using a vending machine was an interactive way to get people to buy artworks.
She said many people avoided entering art galleries to view original artworks as they thought that the prices of the works might be too costly.
“We thought about making small artworks available via a vending machine placed outside the gallery where people can browse the available art pieces and buy them,” she explained.

These artworks are part of the gallery’s exhibition titled “Herstory: Art in Every Form”, held in conjunction with International Women’s Day (IWD) 2025.
“Among the available pieces are collectible art puzzles by selected artists.
“The puzzles allow collectors to take home an artwork that involves them in its completion,” she said.
Works of 12 female artists from Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia are featured in the exhibition.
Cheong described the show as a celebration of creativity.
“It is a platform for connection, and a reflection of the expanding possibilities for women in art.

“It invites audiences to immerse themselves in a world where art transcends traditional boundaries, and embraces innovation, accessibility, and collective storytelling,” said Cheong.
“It reaffirms our commitment to fostering inclusivity and new ideas in the arts.
“This paves the way for a future where art is not only seen but also lived, owned and cherished by all,” she added.
The participating artists are Anne Koh, Agnes Lau, Amy Nazira, Beatrice, Chryssie, Dominica, Denise Wong, Datuk Sharifah Fatimah Zubir, Kumari Nahappan, Lau Wai Leng, SC Chin and Tofu Sze Yu.
The display comprises an array of mediums, including painting, sculpture, stained glass, illustration and conceptual art.
The exhibition is on until April 20.
