A NEW design studio and art space in Edinburgh’s West End is set to open, selling homeware and lifestyle products.
Jessica Anderton, the store’s proprietor and fine art painter, decided to open the new location following the success of her outlet in St. Andrews.
She graduated from Edinburgh College of Art with a degree in fine art in 2018 and, following huge demand for her graduate piece, BAR, started her own design business – which has since gone from strength to strength – inspired by her fine art painting.
Jessica’s new location will be focused on sharing her work in a more personal, less commercial way, however, with more emphasis placed on creating new works than selling.

This is in contrast to her location in St. Andrews, which has seen commercial success.
Her designs have found their way into Fenwick, Harvey Nichols, Jenners, and John Lewis stores around the country.
Jessica’s work focuses on the subtext of everyday life, with consumerism and modernity under the microscope.
This is achieved through the use of everyday items placed in repetitive patterns, highlighting the beauty in objects that are often overlooked and disregarded.
The vivid colour schemes and bold compositions and contrasts in her work have proven a hit with a wide audience, and her design company has seen a meteoric rise.

Speaking today, however, Jessica said that the focus on her new space would be less commercial and more creative and personal: “I’m so delighted to have this space on William Street.
“The space is my artist’s studio, where I will be painting and creating new designs/collections, inspired by my original paintings.
“I hope to host some seasonal shopping events and private studio visits will be available by appointment.
“It’s a dedicated space to create and share my work in a more personal way.”
Some of Jessica’s recent collections include Champagne & Fizz, GIN, CATS, DOGS, GOLF, Dressage & Racehorses, BAR, Art of Scent and Design Nutcrackers.
All of these focus on a different aspect of the everyday and have been printed onto a variety of household goods and like oven mitts, aprons, and pillowcases.
With all of her products hand-painted in her studio and manufactured in the UK, Jessica says she is committed to using sustainable, long-lasting manufacturing techniques.
Her studio can be found at 45 William Street, although it will not be open to the public most days.
