Professor HUA DONG is to join London’s Royal College of Art (RCA) as head of the school’s longest-running research centre.
Dong returns to the RCA’s Helen Hamlyn Centre for Design as director, having been a visiting fellow at the institution between 2004 and 2006.
Until recently, she has worked as Professor in Design and Director of the Brunel Design Research Centre at Brunel University of London.
Taking up the role in October this year, Dong’s appointment has been described as an “important and transformative step in positioning the HHCD for future success”.
She joins fellow recent appointees Professor CLAIRE CRAIG and Professor PAUL CHAMBERLAIN, who have taken up the reins as the HHCD’s chairs of design.
Designer and philanthropist HELEN HAMLYN, for whom the centre is named, said Dong’s appointment was proof of its “commitment to global leadership in inclusive design”.
“Her exceptional record of research and international collaboration, combined with an understanding of the centre’s values and history, make her ideally placed to lead the next chapter of its development,” Hamlyn said.
