Preparatory works have begun on a new public art project at Coldham’s Common.
The project will see “vibrant nature-inspired artwork” applied to the storage containers near Abbey Leisure Pool on Coldham’s Common, situated next to the BMX trails.

Commissioned by Cambridge City Council, the project will involve local artist Stefanie Schuessler, an internationally recognised muralist whose works can be found across the globe, transform the outward facing sides of the containers.
The designs “will draw inspiration from the wildlife and natural landscape of the Common, celebrating its open green space”.
The project will be delivered by the council’s creative partnerships team, and forms part of an ongoing commitment to investing in public art across the city.
Initial preparatory work is now under way, with painting scheduled to begin shortly. The project is expected to be completed by the end of June.

Abby Pollock, Cambridge BID’s project manager and creative partnerships officer, said: “Bringing culture into everyday spaces across Cambridge creates meaningful and authentic opportunities for people to connect with creativity.
“Inspired by the natural surroundings of Coldham’s Common, the mural will offer commuters, residents and passers-by the chance to enjoy artwork within one of Cambridge’s much-loved and used green spaces.”
