The Year 10 pupils worked alongside art teacher Mr J Evans and Lancashire fine artist and photographer Diane Muldowney to create a vibrant display designed to brighten the station platform for passengers and visitors.
The unveiling ceremony, held on April 30, was attended by railway partners and members of the dedicated Station Friends group with students delighted to meet Northern mascot Whistle the Dog as well as the group’s four-legged companion, Nell.

The artwork forms part of the students’ GCSE portfolios and reflects both the station and nearby attractions.
Inspired by Brighton-based French illustrator Claire Rolett and pioneering American pop artist Robert Rauschenberg, the students experimented with bold colour, mixed media and cyanotype printing techniques using photographic negatives.
Martin Keating, Community and Sustainability Manager, said: “It’s a pleasure to showcase the artwork created by Armfield Academy – it brings a cheer to the railway station for all to enjoy.”
The project also saw the Station Friends group repaint fencing and improve the surrounding area, helping to create a more welcoming environment and boost community pride in the station.
