Why Is sā Ladakh Biennale special?
Ladakh is hosting the world’s highest art biennale in August set over 3,000 metres above sea level! The third edition of the sā Ladakh Biennale is where contemporary art exists not inside white cube galleries, but will be spread across villages, monasteries, open terrains, and learning spaces along the ecologically-sensitive landscape along the Leh-Kargil corridor.
Experience exhibitions, workshops, residencies, and community-based initiatives. With art taking over even the most unconventional and remotest parts of the country, visitors get a chance to interact with the region’s fragile ecology, culture, and communities, a much needed beak from the lavish AC-exhibition halls and art fair pavilions.
This year’s theme of sā Ladakh Biennale is ‘Signals from Another Star. The theme feels especially relevant in Ladakh, where changing weather patterns due to climate change, melting glaciers, and the growing adverse impact of over-tourism continue to affect the region.
With this biennale, art will not be consumed as an isolated spectacle. It will encourages visitors to reflect on mindful tourism, minimising carbon footprint, and explores ideas of regeneration, and climate consciousness.

When will the sā Ladakh Art Biennale 2026 take place?
The third edition of the sā Ladakh Biennale will take place from August 1 to 10, 2026.
Participating Artists At sā Ladakh Biennale 2026
The sā Ladakh Biennale 2026 features both Ladakhi and international artists. Participating Ladakhi artists include Chemat Dorjey, Tundup Dorjay, Stanzin Samphel, and Urgain Zawa along with international names such as Jitish Kallat, Anna Jermolaewa, and Swiss collaborative practice Studio Eidola, amongst others.

The biennale spans eight locations across the 230-kilometre Leh-Kargil corridor, including Kargil, Mulbekh, Heniskot, Lamayuru, Nurla, Likir, Basgo, and Leh.
How To Reach sā Ladakh Biennale?
The nearest airport is Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport. From there, visitors can continue the journey to biennale spots via cabs, rental bikes, or buses travelling along the Manali-Leh or Srinagar-Leh highways.
