The Dagny Boston
The Dagny Boston brings visitors closer to New England’s rich history and design roots.
As Boston’s first Art Deco skyscraper constructed in 1928, the building was designed by Massachusetts architect and artist Harold Field Kellogg. With a colored history and vibrant culture is it its roots, the structure has worn many hats. Long before it became a hotel, the building was known as the Public Services Building and later as the Batterymarch Building; 1995 saw Landmarks Commission order that the exterior be preserved. Look closely at the brickwork and it can be seen that the structural steel and reinforced concrete frame are clad in over thirty shades of progressively lighter polychrome brick to emphasize the verticality of the structure, drawing the eyes upward.
The building was first converted into a hotel in 1998, with the arrival of The Dagny in August 2023. Inspired by the Old Norse words dagr (day) and ný (new,) The Dagny celebrates the building’s next era while staying true to its vibrant past. A multi-million-dollar renovation led by international hospitality design firm Hirsch Bedner Associates Los Angeles transformed the property’s interiors, which feature plenty of Art Deco-inspired design elements throughout to honor the building’s beginnings.
The renovation introduced 403 newly redesigned and renovated guest rooms, including 26 suites, along with a 2,000 square foot fitness center with state-of-the-art equipment from leading wellness brands, 15 meeting rooms and 9,000 square feet of flexible meeting and event space and a library.

A grand lobby is the gateway to a historic stay. The ceiling still features the original goldleaf Art Deco mural of Atlas carrying the world on his shoulders, with the skyline of the City of Boston appearing on the horizon.

The lobby also acts as an entryway to some of Boston’s most famed eateries and watering holes. Tradesman Coffee Shop & Lounge serves up an array of delectable treats, including an eye-catching croissant that is an art form in its own right. Elsewhere, Fin Point Oyster Bar & Grille offers fresh seafood and one of the best espresso martinis on the East Coast.
Guest rooms are warm and inviting, boasting intricate design details such as wainscoting accents and jewel-toned finishes that add a luxurious tough to the classic and comfortable furniture. Several guest bedrooms have been transformed into wellness havens that feature a Peloton Bike and an array of mindful extras.
