Degree-level game design to be offered in Enniskillen

THE launch of a Game Design pathway at the South West College in Enniskillen could lead to a “transformative time for digital arts education” in the county as excitement builds for the next term.
In September, a new state-of-the-art Visualisation Studio at The Workhouse in Enniskillen will be unveiled, which will in turn help the college deliver its new degree-level Game Design pathway.
The project, which has been funded by Future Screens NI, will offer a range of exciting and creative opportunities for Fermanagh students who are keen to pursue a career in game design.
“This is a transformative time for digital arts education in Northern Ireland,” Director of Development and Support at the South West College, Ciaran McManus, explained.
“Our students are already producing industry-standard work, and this new programme will further establish Enniskillen as a centre of excellence for game design.
“The skills taught on this course will open doors not only in gaming but in sectors such as construction, architectural visualisation, product design, digital marketing and beyond,” he said.
The hope is to create new opportunities for young people with an interest in game design.
“At South West College, we’re not just preparing students for today’s careers, we’re equipping them for the opportunities of tomorrow,” explained Mr McManus.
“We’re proud to offer world-class training and industry access to learners here in our community.”
Lecturer in Game Design at South West College, Paul McGovern, welcomed the news.
“We believe every detail has meaning, every concept deserves clarity, and every vision can be brought to life,” Mr McGovern said, following news of the news Game Design pathway.
“We don’t just visualise we humanise crafting digital experiences that evoke emotion, inspire action, and bring stories to life. The future is a canvas, and we invite our students to help paint it.”
