Paramount history takes center stage at Artist Talk on Wednesday

As part of the weeklong ArtWorks Week celebration, Austin Area Arts is inviting the public to a special Artist Talk from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday at the ArtWorks Center, 2nd Floor Gallery.
Local artists John and Lois Durfey will share the story behind their work on the Paramount Theatre renovation project from the 1990s. Attendees will get a last chance to view this gallery show and see an up-close look at the original stencils, color samples, and design elements used during the restoration of this historic Austin landmark.
This talk will offer a rare glimpse into the artistic and technical processes that helped preserve the Paramount’s architectural beauty — just in time for the theatre’s upcoming grand re-opening.
The Artist Talk is free and open to the public. No registration is required.
This event is one of several highlights during ArtWorks Week, leading up to the 14th annual Austin ArtWorks Festival on Aug. 23-24. A full schedule of events, including music, poetry, and family-friendly entertainment, can be found at austinareaarts.org/artworks-week.
