The latest addition at the Eype Centre for the Arts, ‘A Splash of Colour’ will be on display from next Monday and will feature three local artists that have deep rooted connections to the surrounding areas, which inspire them to create beautiful work.

The exhibition will feature pieces from Nicola Dennis, who has a passion for pattern work and is heavily inspired by wildlife.

Nicola was one of the artists behind the beloved ‘Stampede by the Sea’ collection, where 60 vibrantly decorated elephant sculptures captured the heart of residents as they were dotted around Bridport, West Bay and Lyme Regis from March to May last year.

The herd then moved to the Corn Exchange in Dorchester for a final exhibition, before many were auctioned off at a special event raising money for Weldmar Hopsicecare.

Nicola was the creator of one of the most beloved elephants, ‘Sanctuary’, which was decorated with marine life and birds, located outside the Weldmar shop in Bridport during the trail.

Sanctuary fetched an incredible £25,000 for the charity which provides vital end of life care for those living with terminal illnesses across Dorset.

The Splash of Colour exhibition will also feature the mixed media work of Dan Pedler who creates striking abstract pieces which blend wood, resin, paint and collage and takes inspiration from extensive walks on the South West Coast Path.

With a studio in Bridport’s Art & Vintage Quarter, on the St. Michael’s Estate, Sally Davies draws on her love of gardening to create abstract paintings and photo montages.

Her images have more recently found a practical application, converted into pieces suitable for outdoors and other areas.

Alongside their original art, the three artists will also be offering prints and cards.

The exhibition will take place at the centre at St Peter’s Church, on Mount Lane, from Monday, May 11 to Sunday, May 17.

It is open from 10am to 4pm for people to visit and is free to attend.
