COLUMBUS − The artwork of nine Stark County students is on view online in the annual Ohio Governor’s Youth Art Exhibition.
Their artwork was selected from among the top student creators throughout the state in the exhibition, which is a program of the Ohio Alliance for Arts Education in partnership with the governor’s office, Ohio Department of Education and Workforce, and the Ohio Arts Council.
The initiative supports arts education and emerging student artists in Ohio.
Whose artwork was selected for the Governor’s Art Exhibition?
Stark County high school students whose artwork was chosen for the statewide exhibition were:
- Helen Piatt of Canton South (photography)
- Athena Campbell of Perry High School (printmaking)
- Celia Graham of Perry (drawing)
- Serenity Lockard of Perry (drawing)
- Leah Pippert of Perry (printmaking)
- Landon Seery of Perry (drawing and sculpture)
- Amelia Nonnamaker of Jackson High School (jewelry)
- Ray Cho of Jackson (digital art)
- Lon Wright of GlenOak high school (drawing and painting)

One of Wright’s pieces was among the top 25 in the Ohio Governor’s Youth Art Exhibition.
Artwork from the Stark County students and students across the state can be viewed at an online gallery at https://oaae.net/ogyae.
Nearly 6,000 works were submitted for judging at regional sites, and 1,167 works were sent to state level judging, said Sara Andes, an art educator at Jackson High School.
The exhibition was open to students from public, private and charter high schools. Pieces cover an array of styles, materials and mediums.
“This year’s exhibition, open to all of Ohio’s 1,113 high schools, highlights the incredible talent nurtured within the state’s educational system,” said a news release. “Stark County students earned a well-deserved place in this highly competitive exhibition, which is dedicated to providing young artists with the opportunity to further their artistic skills.”
Stark County teachers who helped their students with the Ohio Governor’s Youth Art Exhibition were: Chris Bergert of Canton South; Susan Rusu of Perry; Jill Balderson of GlenOak; and Lisa Ayres of Jackson.
Andes serves as Region 7 director and Sara Dittfeld of Indian Valley High School in Gnadenhutten serves as the Region 10 director for the Ohio Governor’s Youth Art Exhibition. Stark County students competed in one of those two regions.
Additionally, Wright and Perry students Brayan Bright (drawing) and Caitlin Greynolds (drawing) had artwork displayed in the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce state cameo show that is displayed digitally in their offices.
