A new ongoing exhibit is heading to the Betteravia Art Gallery. The opening reception for Post-Wild: Nature in the 21st Century will be held on May 21 from 5 to 7 p.m.
Following an open call for submissions, there’ll be 54 pieces by 34 artists featured in the show ranging from photographs and paintings to ceramics and digital media. The theme revolves around how artists interpret and challenge modern perspectives about nature.
Laura-Susan Thomas, a professor at Allan Hancock College, helped curate the exhibit with help from the Santa Barbara County Office of Arts and Culture.
“There is a good mix of artworks that are asking us to see what may come, some that call for involvement of us as individuals to become stewards of our coastal environment, and some artworks that inspire and remind us how beautiful the natural resources and spaces of our Central Coast are,” Thomas said in press materials.
The gallery is located at 511 E. Lakeside Parkway in Santa Maria at the Joseph Centeno Betteravia Government Administration Building. Members of the public can visit the exhibition weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
