A new virtual Nick Cave exhibition, titled Stranger Than Kindness, has officially opened online.
The celebrated exhibition first opened in 2020, as presented by The Royal Danish Library. Cave was originally a co-curator and co-designer for the exhibition, which fused biography, autobiography, and fiction.
The original exhibition brought together more than 300 objects collected or created by Nick Cave through six decades of life. They were posited through multiple large-scale installations.
The exhibition then travelled to Montreal, Canada. Then, in 2022, it opened at Galerie de la Maison du Festival.
Now, it has officially come to the digital realm. The newly formed exhibition allows visitors to access the full Cave experience through an ultra-high-resolution 3D version of its physical counterparts.
Cave’s objects on display include photographs, letters, artworks, objects, installations, audio, video, and more.
The audio component is available as fans navigate around the website. It was recorded this year; the conversation between Cave and co-curator Christina Back can work as a backdrop to an unimpeded look around the virtual gallery.
Thanks to super-high resolution (gigapixel) 3D scans of the original objects on display, visitors can zoom in on objects and artworks in gigapixel quality. Therefore, Cave fans can explore the content via new interactive storytelling methods.
Elsewhere, Cave’s band, Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds, recently announced their new live album Live God. Across 18 live tracks, the album captures the wildly transcendent nature of Cave’s live shows.
Meanwhile, Sky Documentaries recently unveiled plans to release a new documentary celebrating Cave’s career, which has the working title of The Veiled World of Nick Cave. It features contributions from Ellis, Greenwood, Florence Welch, and is set to arrive in 2025.
Additionally, Matt Smith stars in a new adaptation of Cave’s second novel, The Death of Bunny Munro, which is out via Sky Atlantic and Now on November 20th.
